POSITION TITLE: Health Careers Coordinator
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, Nonexempt

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
Southwest Georgia Area Health Education Center (SOWEGA-AHEC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare in the southwest region of Georgia. Established in 1990, SOWEGA-AHEC collaborates with healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community partners to address the region's health professional workforce shortages and improve access and quality of care for underserved populations. SOWEGA-AHEC offers services and programs to connect students to health careers, health care professionals to communities, and Southwest Georgia to better health.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
To ensure Southwest Georgia has a sufficient healthcare workforce pipeline, the Health Careers Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing classroom presentations to promote health careers awareness in our 38-county region. The Health Careers Coordinator also collaborates with secondary and higher educational institutions to plan and conduct camps and programs for students interested in pursuing a healthcare career, including the Georgia Farmworker Health summer projects.

QUALITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Superior planning, organizational, and implementation skills.
  • Must be a creative and independent worker with initiative.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar data management tool.
  • Knowledge of health careers preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education, Public Health, or Health Science.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours with some evening and weekend work required.
  • Have a reliable car.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and present meaningful, engaging, and age-appropriate programs for educating and recruiting students into various healthcare careers, SOWEGA-AHEC programs, and services focusing on students from underserved areas or underrepresented in health professions.
  • Contact counselors/teachers to schedule health careers presentations for middle and high school students.
  • Maintain current knowledge of health careers and trends in the healthcare industry.
  • Facilitate good communication to foster strong partnerships with healthcare educators and employers in the 38-county region.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing camps and intensive programs that expose and encourage students to become healthcare professionals.
  • Update the Salesforce database upon completing presentations, programs, and camps.
  • Counsel students and arrange shadowing or volunteer opportunities.
  • Consistently track and update student participants in the database through their health career journey to completion.
  • Support the planning and oversee the implementation of the Georgia Farmworker Health Projects each summer.
  • Create and maintain SOWEGA-AHEC’s social media presence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
