Teachers & K-12 Students

In order to  increase K-12 students’ knowledge of the large number and variety of health professions and careers, SOWEGA-AHEC conducts  classroom presentations, 20-hour intensive programs  and participates in career fairs.   SOWEGA-AHEC also offers  middle and high school curricula, complete with daily lesson plans, handouts, and supporting materials to help teachers educate students  about the multitude of diverse health careers. For students in post-secondary programs we provide HIPAA training and career counseling. Our Health Careers in Georgia manual  is the perfect tool for teachers, students, counselors and parents as it contains detailed  information about 80+ health careers and information about the associated training programs, their academic requirements,  salary ranges, accreditation and/or licensing requirements as well as scholarship and financial aid resources.   Download free copy.  To set up a Health Careers Presentation or HIPAA training, contact our Health Careers Recruiter.

College Students

SOWEGA-AHEC offers health career counseling to college students and adults who are interested in pursuing a profession in healthcare, along with limited shadowing experiences.  Our Pathway to Med School program is for pre-med students interested in becoming a primary care physician.

Health Professional Students

In partnership with educators, medical and allied health programs, and regional healthcare professionals, SOWEGA-AHEC provides quality community-based learning opportunities for health professions students by managing clinical rotations, assisting in development of clinical training sites and providing housing or travel assistance.  Upon graduation, it is our hope that these students return to practice in the region.

Preceptors

Practicing healthcare providers that volunteer their time to educate the next generation of providers are the backbone of the clinical training experiences students are required to complete.  Precepting not only creates an opportunity to educate the students on the technical aspects of what is required but also the unique and rewarding qualities of  working with the underserved.  By providing high quality, local training opportunities for students in our region, we increase the chances that they will return to the area to practice.  Interested in learning more about being a  community teacher/preceptor and educating current health professions students, please contact our Preceptor Coordinator. We currently have medical, PA, NP, PT and allied health students looking for clinical training sites in southwest Georgia.

Healthcare Professionals

SOWEGA-AHEC may also serve your organization as a consultant and routinely provide various program planning assistance. Request additional information about any of these services and opportunities from our CE Coordinator.
